Huron County "Before the Plate" screening

Huron County Soil and Crop hosted a gala event April 4, 2019 at the Cowbell Brewery in Blyth.  The function included a screening of the documentary, Before the Plate.

The idea behind the event was to invite 80 farmers, educators, restaurateurs, and those in the health sector to view a documentary featuring John Horne, Executive Chef of the Toronto restaurant Canoe.  We watched as John followed each ingredient in his meal from farm to plate.  Along with John, I am sure we all gained a deeper appreciation of where our food comes from.  The hope was to enlighten some non-farmers and farmers alike about GMO’s, pesticides, and good farming practices.  Our thought was that farmers need to promote the good things they do as food producers, so people can feel safe about the foods they eat.

Our thanks go out to Michelle Baker, Rick Kootstra, and Carol Leeming, for organizing the event, and a special thanks to our sponsors who made it all possible:
